Manufacturing process — Pierce, cold-work, anneal
Pierce, cold-work, anneal: how seamless alloy tubing is made
- Hot piercing of the conditioned billet on a rotary piercing mill (or extrusion for grades with poor hot workability)
- Cold rolling on Pilger / two-high mills or cold drawing with intermediate solution anneals
- Degreasing and pickling to remove lubricant and oxide; controlled atmosphere bright annealing for final temper
- Straightening, eddy-current or ultrasonic testing to 100% of length, hydrostatic proof testing
- Cutting, drift-expansion of ends, marking and EN 10204 3.1 certification
Every stage is heat-number traceable; furnace charts, NDT records and test data are retained and issued with the mill certificate.
